Recently, the current EAC Summit Chair – President Paul Kagame convened a High Level Strategy Retreat (the first of its kind) for Key Or gans and Institutions of the East African Community in Kigali, Rwanda.
This retreat focused on a review of the current operations of the EAC organs and institutions, sharing of views and insights on their effectiveness against their mandates under the EAC Treaty, which was signed in 1999; and drawing of lessons from other regional efforts in terms of collaborative work ethic among the EAC organs and institutions and between them andthe Partner States. It adopted the “Kigali Spirit” towards a more efficient and effective regional organization (EAC, 2009)


The East African Sustainability (SusWatch) Network is a network of NGOs from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania spearheaded by Uganda Coalition for Sustainable Development (UCSD), Sustainable Environmental Development Watch Network (SusWatch Kenya), and Tanzania Coalition for Sustainable Development (TCSD). EA SusWatch Regional Secretariat is hosted by UCSD in Kampala, Uganda.
